The News

On January 27, 2026, the project known in its experimental phase as switchAI Prototype officially transitioned to its permanent home: OpenClaw. This move marks our evolution from a viral experiment into a robust, community-driven platform for autonomous local AI.

Why the Change?

Naming is hard, especially in a fast-moving field. Our early internal prototypes used names like Clawdbot and Moltbot, but as we prepared for a wider release, we realized we needed a brand that was entirely our own—one that reflected our commitment to open-source excellence and the “Clawd” engine (the stateful memory system) at our core.

The name OpenClaw perfectly captures our mission:

  • Open: Committed to transparency and local-first data.
  • Clawd: Leveraging our powerful, stateful interaction engine.

What’s Different?

The name: switchAI Prototype → OpenClaw
The mascot: switchAI Alpha → Clawdie
The website: openclaw.com
The GitHub: github.com/jevvellabs/openclaw

Everything else stays the same. The agent’s functionality, philosophy, and mission remain unchanged. It’s still the same powerful, open-source autonomous agent running on your hardware.

The Evolution

The transition wasn’t just about a logo. We spent the last few weeks hardening the core security, improving the Docker-based sandbox, and refining the Option C Hybrid Architecture that powers our intelligent routing.

What This Means for You

If you’ve been following the project, here’s what to do:

  1. Update your bookmarks to the new documentation at openclaw.com
  2. Update your GitHub remotes to point to the new Jevelle Labs repository.
  3. Keep your existing installations running—they’ll continue to work, and we’ll provide a migration path for the new branding in the next update.

The Bigger Picture

This rebranding is a milestone in the AI landscape. As local AI matures, having a distinct identity that isn’t tied to cloud providers is essential. OpenClaw is built by developers, for developers, with a focus on genuine autonomy and privacy.

The good news? The core mission remains as strong as ever. The future of computing in your hands? That’s still the same.
